What Causes Gray Hair

& Which Solution Should You Try?

Before you start to apply or consume some company's product, it's important to first understand what things are causing the problem you're trying to solve. So, here's some information you should know about why people get gray hair.

Recent scientific studies by Medical experts claim that gray hair is caused by a reduction in the production of melanin in the follicles (which controls color pigmentation) while at the same time an increase in hydrogen peroxide. The reduction is caused by an increase in oxidation stress partially as a result of Free Radicals and an over production of hydrogen peroxide in the hair follicles. Basically their research states that too many Free Radicals and too much hyrogen peroxide in the follicles causes hair to bleach and turn white or gray.

So, what helps to control the production of hydrogen peroxide and Free Radicals? Look at the following consumable vitamins or supplements.

Catalase

The research states that one enzyme in the break up of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen is controlled by the body's production of Catalase.

Other enzymes that plays a role in the producing melanin are tyrosine, glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase. Each are produced less and less by the body as we age.

L-Tyrosine

"L-Tyrosine is an amino acid that is used to produce noradrenaline and dopamine; it appears to reduce stress during exposure to acute stressors (which tend to deplete noradrenaline) and may help to prevent stress-induced memory deficits. - Examine.com"

Glutathione Peroxidase (Glutathione or L-Glutamine)

Is a cytosolic enzyme that catalyzes the reduction of hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen as well as catalyzing the reduction of peroxide radicals to alcohols and oxygen.

Here is an herb you should know about that helps to reduce oxidation and break apart hydrogen peroxide.

He Shou Wu (Fo-ti aka Chinese Knotweed) or Polygonum Multiforme - To Increase Superoxide Dismutase (SOD)

According to Serena Ma, ND, MS, LAc, she writes: "Chinese Medicine says about this. Gray hair results from weak kidneys or liver blood, which can also be related to aging and stress. The Chinese remedy for gray hair is an herb he shou wu or polygonum multiforme. According to Chinese Medicine, he shou wu supplements the liver and boosts the kidneys, and nourishes the blood.

Now this is interesting. Remember catalase? There's another enzyme called superoxide dismutase (SOD) which, like catalase, protects against oxygen free radical damage and declines with age. He shou wu raises SOD levels, and is the #1 herb in Chinese Medicine to reverse gray hair."

Next, here is a product which you can apply to the hair follicle area if you prefer not to take vitamins or in addition to.

DEPO-MELANIN™ SCALP SERUM

A PC-KUS Pseudocatalase/Catalase Formulation

According to the manufacturer: "Depo-melanin is a 100% drug free hair serum that is formulated with the main ingredients of pseudocatalase and catalase, which is scientifically proven to prevent gray hair (REFERENCES: A study published in The FASEB Journal (Journal of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology) has showed that a Pseudocatalase or PC-KUS, can return pigment to hair."

So, Which Product Should You Try?

Consider the following...

According to the reports, it seems that graying or whitening hair is related to the amount of melanin produced in the follicle area due to stress, illness and age, plus a build up Free Radicals or oxidation and even bleaching due to hydrogen peroxide. Also, it also makes reasonable sense that taking the right vitamins, eating a better diet and improving a person's health should help to reduce Free Radicals or oxidation within the body, which in turn may increase the body's natural production of melanin. However, there is no test which can tell us the specific vitamin we need more of or lack. Therefore, it seems that trying each of these vitamins as a combined group or separately might help to identify the missing key. So, it's up to you which you want to try first.

The biggest differences between Catalase HX and Foligray are the additional included vitamins such as Fo-ti, L-tyrosine, as well as Catalase within capsule servings. Catalase HX is the only product in the list that only contains two ingredients Catalase and Picrorhiza Kurroa.

Both Foligray includes many, but not all, of the additional vitamins mentioned above, without the need to purchase separate vitamins. In comparison, the benefit of containing only two ingredients within Catalase HX may serve someone who might be allergic to the additional vitamins. Or, by having only two ingredients it might benefit someone looking to identify if taking Catalase alone produces positive results. And, if you prefer not to swallow any pills at all the Depo Melanin Scalp Serum gives you another alternative. Either way, these solutions should provide you with good options.
